FAQ’s: Your QUESTIONS ANSWERED
What AGE RANGE is FTM Camp?
1
FTM Camp welcomes performers across a range of ages, with different programmes designed for different stages of their training and development. Dance Camp is 8+ and MT Camp is 12 + as well as being ability dependent, this will be assessed at application. CampPro is for in training, seeking work or in professional work 18+ performers.
Absolutely! lots of campers have arrive at FTM without knowing anyone else. Creating friendships and a genuine sense of belonging is a huge part of camp. Our team makes a particular effort to help new campers settle in by planning accommodation and groups to aid this, this help meet others and feel comfortable from the moment they arrive. Many previous campers have left with friendships that continue long after camp has finished.
Can my child attend FTM alone?
2
Does my child need to be an advanced performer?
3
FTM programmes have an audition or application process so that we can make sure the level and environment are right for each young person, to aid enjoyment. Our camps are intermediate/advanced level.
Camp Pro is specifically designed for 18+ performers at a more advanced or professional stage of their training.
Our residential camp fees include accommodation, meals, professional performing arts training, scheduled camp activities and the full residential FTM experience, including footage taken at camp.
What is included in the price?
4
Where do campers sleep?
5
Campers stay together on-site at Walton Firs Activity Centre in Surrey. Depending on the programme and group, accommodation can include bunkhouses (younger campers near to toilet), wooden pods and our bell tent village. We organise accommodation carefully, taking age, friendships and pastoral needs into consideration. To see our accommodation, head to (INSERT LINK).
FTM campers are taught by working professionals from the performing arts and creative industries, from across the UK and around the world. Our faculty can include professional dancers, West End performers, choreographers, directors, musical directors and other industry creatives. Specialist programmes may also give campers access to agents and other professionals working within the industry.
6
WHO TEACHES AT FTM?
What activities do campers do?
7
Performing is only half of FTM! Alongside dance or acting, singing, rehearsals and masterclasses, campers take part in traditional summer-camp and outdoor activities. These can include high ropes, archery, caving, Art Projects, axe throwing, team challenges, campfires, ‘THE MAZE’, games, Slip 'N Slide and much more. Activities vary between camps and years. In 2027 we are excited to have the return of the Flying Trapeze with High Fly Trapeze.
What food is provided?
8
Campers receive freshly prepared meals throughout their residential stay, with food provided on site. We aim to provide filling, familiar meals that keep everyone fuelled through busy days of training and activities (even for those fussy eaters)
Our on-site catering is led by Claire from CooksSurrey, who will return in 2027 for her third year working with FTM Camp. Claire knows our camp, our team and the needs of our campers, and provides familiar, home-style meals throughout their stay.
Dietary requirements, allergies and intolerances are collected before camp (in the camper form) so that Claire and the FTM team can plan ahead and make appropriate arrangements.
How are campers supervised overnight?
9
FTM is a fully residential experience, with our team staying on site throughout camp. Campers have designated accommodation and DBS checked staff are available overnight, with pastoral and safeguarding procedures in place. The site itself is also controlled overnight by Walton Firs to help maintain a safe residential environment.
Staff accommodation is scattered around the various sleeping sites at camp to ensure they are easily accessible. Our youngest campers (8-11) are place in the bunkhouse nearest the toilets and with staff staying in rooms nearby.
10
Yes. FTM offers scholarship opportunities and financial support. We work hard to avoid financial circumstances to be the reason a talented young person misses out on camp. Support can vary from partial discounts to more substantial scholarship assistance depending on the programme, available funding and individual circumstances.
Natasha, our Director, had the opportunities she had because of scholarships, and we want to continue that support of others. In 2026 Fit the Mould gave £16,000 in scholarships through their own finances and private scholarship donors. If you know someone who would like to sponsor a camper, or help in anyway, then please email ftmcamp@gmail.com for more info.
Are scholarships available?
Can I use a payment plan?
11
Yes. We understand that paying for camp in one lump sum isn't possible for every family, so flexible payment plans can be arranged. We aim to work with families wherever reasonably possible, and individual arrangements can be discussed with the FTM team via ftmcamp@gmail.com
Homesickness is completely normal, particularly for younger campers or those staying away from home for the first time. Our team is experienced in supporting young people through this. We focus on helping campers feel included, keeping them engaged and giving them someone they trust to speak to. If we have any concerns about a camper's wellbeing, we'll communicate with their parent or guardian. We talk about this in our welcome to camp speech and encourage open communication with our campers to let us know how they are feeling.
What happens if my child is homesick?
12
What safeguarding measures are in place?
13
Safeguarding and wellbeing are central to FTM. Our residential camps have a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), DBS-checked staff, multiple first-aid trained staff, an on-site physiotherapist, pastoral support and clear safeguarding procedures. These staff are on site throughout the residential experience and undergo training prior to camp beginning. This makes them aware of FTM Camp Policy specific management of medication, overnight supervision, site security, escalation and deescalation of camper issues and camper welfare.
Both offer the full residential FTM experience, but the training focus is different.
Dance Camp focuses primarily on dance training, giving young performers the opportunity to work across different styles with professional dancers, choreographers and industry creatives - alongside traditional summer camp.
Musical Theatre Camp combines acting, singing and dance as campers work towards creating a full musical production. Campers experience not only rehearsals and performance but the wider production process, working alongside a professional creative team that can include direction, choreography, musical direction, lighting, set, make-up and prosthetics - alongside traditional summer camp.

What is Camp Pro?
Camp Pro is FTM's advanced residential programme for performers aged 18+ who are in professional training, have graduated from professional training or have relevant industry experience. It provides advanced masterclasses, mock auditions, individual feedback, agency seminars, networking and opportunities to work directly with current industry professionals - all in the unique training environment of our summer camp. (what better way to get to know industry pro’s than sharing time around the camp fire ?)
Camp Pro retains the community, activity based and residential experience of FTM, but the focus shifts towards preparing performers for the realities of a professional career: whether that is already in the process or just beginning.
